This past week, my wife told me something I wasn’t aware of. I know that since I’ve been training, I often have dreams of training or of actually fighting. Usually its as I’m falling asleep and especially on the nights I trained. As I drift off, I might think of what we did in class, various punching combinations, and so forth.
Apparently there are times in my sleep when I would jump or twitch. But she said it wasn’t random movements. There would be times when my right arm would twitch, then my left, then my right again. Other times my left or right arm would twitch but would make a curling motion. I’m guessing in those situations I was dreaming of choking someone using BJJ. It was kind of funny yet made me feel good at the same time.
I like that this has become such a lifestyle to me, that I’m literally eating and sleeping MMA, to the point that I’m dreaming about it and my body is reacting. I wonder if this will help me at some point down the road in an actual fight. Have such muscle memory built up and reactions that when the time comes for an actual fight, my movements and reactions will be automatic. Not sure if that is how it works, but it’s a nice thought.
I watched UFC 154 last night. While I loved the main event with GSP vs. Condit, I really loved Johny Hendricks’ fight where he knocked that dude out in :45. He hit him with a right hook then a huge left cross. The guy was clearly out before he even hit the ground. That is the kind of striker I hope to be. Don’t know if I will ever come close, but gives me something to shoot for.
Had a short week in training last week due to some car issues. This week we have training for three nights I think. I hope to make it to all three before heading into the holiday.
