Been a long week this week. Monday I made it to the gym. Did mental reps for about 15 minutes then did 45 minutes on the treadmill. I walked at a good pace and increased the elevation every two minutes. By the time I was done, I felt like I was climbing Mount Everest. My calves were killing me.
Tuesday didn’t go to the gym. Took my stepdaughter to WWE Smackdown at the AT&T Center. Got some exercise in walking around the arena before and after the show. We were at ringside on row 6. Got some good pictures too
Those were all taken with my phone, we were THAT close. Was a lot of fun. Those guys are huge in person. I told my wife that once I have an MMA fight, maybe I’ll try pro wrestling at one of the indie promotions in the area just to do it. Might be fun if I don’t kill myself in MMA first.
The rest of the week I’ve really been blah. I ran out of Androgel, which I take for my testosterone replacement treatments. I use a mail order pharmacy through my insurance. Yes it’s legal, my doctor prescribes it to me. Low testosterone is why I was so sick and gained so much weight to start with. So I ran out back in December, I had re-ordered it through my doctor. But between my insurance and the mail order pharmacy, it was complete monkeys-fucking-a-football.
First my card was declined. So I gave them a new card. Then I had a past due balance, but no one could explain from when or what it was for, it was just that I had a 150.00 past due. Then there as some other problem with the insurance approving it. I had to fax in some paperwork to verify a previous doctor visit, but that took them two weeks to process. So in the meantime, I’ve been out of the stuff for about 3 weeks. I could feel my levels dropping. Over the past week or so I’ve been more tired and irritable.
Today and yesterday I felt really exhausted and even forgot what day it was. I came home thinking it was Friday. Was going to go to the gym by my house to do cardio, but fell asleep. Thankfully, the androgel came today. I applied it tonight. Hopefully over the next few days I’ll get to feeling back to normal.
I have to say I hate being hurt. I don’t mind the treadmill or bike for cardio, but I miss doing real training. I feel like what exercise I get doing simple cardio is nothing compared to the usual workouts I get. I still managed to drop a few pounds in the past week or so. Hopefully I can at least cut some more weight as I go along. I go in for x-rays on Feb 5th. Hopefully I’ll be cleared by then and can get back into a routine.
I see what athletes go through when dealing with injuries. It’s not just the physical part that sucks, but the mental part is almost worse. You want to be out there, doing what you do. You want to train, you see others going at it and you want to be a part of it, but you can’t. You can’t even practice at it lightly, not even shadowboxing. Can’t do anything that will risk aggravating the injury, that will only keep you sidelined longer. It’s tough.
Now that I got the testosterone stuff that I need, I can hopefully start feeling normal and hit the cardio hard next week. I hate to sound like a commercial but the stuff really works. I hear there is some controversy over testosterone replacement (TRT) but for me it’s a necessity. My doctor said once my weight is back to normal, my body might start producing it on its own again. We’ll see. I got a ways to go.
